Venice Biennale of Architecture

2008

Commissioned by The Lighthouse, Glasgow, UK.

A temporary adjunct installation as part of the 2008 Venice Biennale of Architecture. The staircase served as an informal gathering space and offered visitors and passersby an alternate view of the Grand Canal and a place for respite. The sheltered space underneath the stairs hosted programming during the festival. The concept was inspired by grand staircases in urban centres such as the Spanish Steps in Rome and the entrance steps to the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
